Welcome to the web site of the Sleaford Navigation Trust.

The Navigation was originally run by the Company of The Proprietors of The Sleaford Navigation. Because of falling revenues caused by the coming of the railway to Sleaford in 1857 the Company obtained an Act of Parliament to enable them to abandon their responsibilities to maintain the Navigation. In fact trade continued on the lower part of the Navigation until the late 1940’s.
The Trust is working to restore the Sleaford Navigation from the River Witham, at Chapel Hill, through to the market town of Sleaford in Lincolnshire. Currently 8 of the 13 miles are open to full navigation although the whole length of the Navigation can be canoed.

The Trust will soon be putting a new trip boat on the water in Sleaford.  This will provide a new and exciting volunteering opportunity.  First of all when the boat is put in the water it we will need volunteers to help with the fit out.  When the boat is ready then we will need plenty of volunteers to help crew the boat.  We will be needing volunteers to steer, to talk to the public, to raise the lift bridge and much more.  If you fancy a day out in the open air on a boat, apparently it never rains in Sleaford, this could be just what you need, full training will be given.  Just follow the link to our volunteering page and fill in the form to register your interest.

We are pleased to say that the Trust has become a good cause in the local NK Community Lottery to find out more please click on the button below, it will take you straight to our lottery page.  If you support the Trust by buying a £1 ticket we will receive £0.50 and you could stand the chance of winning £25,000 yourself!
